A couple of you have expressed concerns about the opt-in system that we have in place. I'd like to think that I listen to my roster members but perhaps I should also explain why I chose to have an opt-in system in the first place.
First is to take away any undue pressure from you guys. I realise that this is a micro-fed but I've been an e-fedder since I was around fourteen, and it's been my experience that in any fed roleplayers eventually get burned out after a while and begin to write progressively stale pieces or even outright no show and I felt that it would have been better for you guys as roleplayers to roleplay for the matches you choose to be a part of. Need a break? Fine, just don't opt in. Simple.
Second is to take any undue pressure from me. Seishin's roster is growing, we already have over twenty characters in the roster and it hasn't even been a month since the fed opened. What happens when I have to book matches and write results for fifty characters, or a hundred characters whose handlers expect to be booked? For example, do I book massive battle royales on a bi-weekly basis like 4CW does (or at least used to? I haven't visited their forum in a while)? Or as another example, do I write results for massive 10-15 match shows on a bi-weekly basis just so I can accommodate everyone?
I know that with the opt-in there is always that possibility anyway but I'd hoped it would lessen that possibility, and with the opt-in system I at least know what I'm going to be working with. I suppose I could choose to not book certain people but like I said, I've been around a while and in some of the feds I've been in people complain (loudly) about not being booked when they wanted to be. It seemed like less hassle for me to make it your choice instead of mine.
Third is to discourage no showing. I have a deep dislike for no showing, and anybody who knows me as an e-fedder (besides Az, who only just got into this game, lol) will know that I'm like the frigging energizer bunny when it comes to complaining about no showers. I keep going, and going, and going... I'm not going to start here because if I do then this will become a wall of text about the subject. But suffice it to say, a lot of roleplayers feel the same way that I do, especially if they spent a great deal of time working on their roleplays when their opponents didn't even bother to write so much as a "Fuck you, I win."
You won't believe how seriously honked off I get when I spend hours upon hours writing a 3000+ word long roleplay designed to win when my opponents don't even bother to post a single line. Even one line would have been preferable to nothing, but I digress and I promised not to write so much about the dicketry of no showing.
Anyway, at least with the opt-in system I and everyone else can expect those who have opted in to roleplay.
And there we have it. It has been suggested to me that I book matches for those who miss the opt-in anyway if they express interest in taking part. While I love that people want to be a part of the show, to me this just defeats the purpose of the opt in, and it sets a precedent that handlers should expect to be booked as a matter of course, regardless of whether they opt in. "Did I miss the opt-in? Eh, it doesn't matter I'll get booked anyway. I'd like a title shot, please." Know what I mean?
To those of you who missed the opt-in period but still want to take part, thank you so much for wanting to take part and I am truly sorry that you missed the opt-in period. But at the risk of sounding like a major dick and I apologise if I do, but frankly it's not my fault that you missed it. You had twenty-four hours, a full day, to opt in and it doesn't even take ten seconds to write "I'd like to be a part of this show." You know full well that we have an opt-in system in place when you joined, it's stated quite clearly in the rules and the FAQ, so ignorance can't be an excuse. And I advertise when it opens too, both on the forum and on Twitter so it can't be said that I kept it quiet.
Okay, dick mode disengaged and I'm sorry if I came across as one. Truly, I am. I may look like a convict in real life but trust me, I'm a nice guy, lol.
Anyway, it's also been suggested to me to have an opt-out system instead of an opt-in system. The problem with that however is that it's been my experience that most handlers would rather have their characters be booked and no show than take the not even ten seconds to say "I don't want to be a part of this show." It's crazy, I know, that someone would rather see their characters lose rather than not at all, but it happens. Quite frequently, in fact.
But that being said, I really do want to take in all of your input and suggestions, so I shall put this to a vote. Do you want to opt in, or opt out? You decide! The poll will be open until September 30th.
Thank you for reading, and thank those of you who gave me input about the fed. I'm really touched that you care enough about Seishin to want to try and make it better.
