Merlot Ayano laid in the middle of her bathroom floor. Underneath her body was a plush white rug. When she was stressed, Merlot would seclude herself in there―it helped her think.
She placed her hands behind her head and closed her eyes. “What fuels a wrestler?” She let out a sigh. “Is it a mere win? Is it having one’s hand raised at the end of the match.” She paused for a moment. “Those two things do fuel wrestlers―short minded ones. If winning every single match is a wrestlers goal, then two things will surely happen: she will fail, and she will not grow.”
She stopped and listened to the gentle hum of the central air unit. “Merlot-chan had a particular mindset before going into her match with Shura. I gave her honor, I gave her respect―which she shit upon. In hindsight, I should be more aggressive; that’s what that match taught me―that’s my growth.
“I should have gone for her jugular in my first video!
“Respect and honor―that is all an illusion. There is very little respect in professional wrestling, and it appears there is little respect in Seishin.”
Merlot opened her eyes and peered up at the ceiling. “I should thank Shura, because now I know that the only person Merlot needs to be concerned about is myself.” She sat up and pushed herself off up the floor. “That loss to Shura, the embarrassment I received I received from Tomoko―that’s what now fuels Merlot!
“I’ll show no mercy in this Championship of Seishin tournament. I will not be made out to be a failure!”
Merlot strolled over to her vanity mirror; she gazed deeply. “It all begins with Azola.
“Azola is not a true wrestler, she is just a woman playing the part. She does not have a passion for wrestling―how could she? A few months ago, she was running around like a fool in the rainforest. She know very little about wrestling; and I bet, what she does know, came from Joanna.
“I will not lose to someone like her; I cannot lose to someone like her. Merlot is not arrogant―but my skill level is far beyond hers. I was a better wrestler than Azola when I a fetus in the womb!”
Merlot stared at her own reflection; her own intensity surprised her bit. But, she wasn't deterred. “I will outwrestle and outshine Azola at Seishin Two. It may not be fair, but, she shall be the first victim on this rage-filled journey. I’m going to kick her amterur head so hard that it flies back to Brazil!
“I just need to refocus my thoughts before the press conference―they are still scattered a bit. And when I do, there will be no filter.” She nodded. “Maybe, Merlot should have took the filter off a long time ago.”
“Babe?” Merlot heard a soft call coming from the bedroom. “Come back to bed?”
“Hai, coming!”
She turned off the bathroom lights.
