Here you will find all of the frequently asked questions about Seishin. If you have a question that isn't on here, then please don't hesitate to ask us at @weareseishin if you have Twitter, or through a PM on the forum.
So, what is Seishin, exactly?
Seishin is a micro-fed based on the wonderful, wonderful world of joshi puroresu, or Japanese women's wrestling. It came to be when the brains behind Seishin watched a little too much Japanese women's wrestling for his own good and decided to form an e-fed based on the likes of Ice Ribbon, JDStar and World Wonder Ring Stardom. Especially World Wonder Ring Stardom.
Seems like a strange name for an e-fed, what does it mean?
While I'm not exactly an expert on the Japanese language it should roughly translate to "Spirit." If you still think it's a strange name then please remember that this is a joshi puroresu themed promotion, and they typically - to westerners at least - have strange sounding names.
What is a micro-fed?
A micro-fed is an e-fed that only allows roleplays with a small word limit, usually around 500 words per roleplay. The trade off is that instead of being able to post walls of text the e-fedder can post as many short roleplays as they like. However, we here at Seishin do not allow unlimited roleplays, as we feel that doing so would essentially turn roleplaying into an endurance test.
So, how many RPs can I write and how long can I make them?
You are able to write up to 2 RPs for your matches that can be up to 500 words long. We believe in a quick easy-going style with as little hassle as possible. In character development roleplays, however, you can make them as long as you please.
How do I enter matches?
We implement an "opt in" system here at Seishin. Before the show, we ask the members of the roster if they wish to be a part of that show, to opt in as it were, and as soon as that show is fully booked you are then able to roleplay for your match until the deadline hits.
How often do you do your shows?
We will hold a show every two weeks, and a supershow every three months. Which in theory should amount to one supershow for every five regular shows.
When do you hold your shows?
We hold our shows every Monday at 2:00am GMT / 7:00pm PST / 10:00pm EST. Of course, things in real life do happen which may interfere with the schedule, and if unable to keep to the schedule then we shall endeavour to post our shows as soon as humanly possible.
How long is your deadline to post RPs?
We hold a bi-weekly show, so taking away the time we would need to write results we implement a 12 day deadline. More than enough time to post at least one 500 word RP, no?
How many characters am I allowed to handle?
As many as you like. However, if you choose to opt in for a show with more than one character then you are expected to post roleplays for all the characters you opt in with. We feel this is more than fair, as you did choose to opt into a match, after all.
Am I allowed to use a male character?
No, and for the simple reason that this is an e-fed based on joshi puroresu. Women's wrestling. It's even in the name of our e-fed. If we included male wrestlers then it wouldn't be women's wrestling, would it? No, Seishin is strictly-no-dickly, we are afraid.
Why am I not allowed to use a male character?
Dude, seriously, it's as we've mentioned above. We won't accept male wrestlers because this is a joshi puroresu e-fed. See, in Japan, wrestling companies are either all-male or all-female. rather than in separate divisions of otherwise male-dominated wrestling promotions like you will see in the west (damn Divas division...). The only real exception to this was the now-defunct FMW and even then their women's division was tiny compared to that of say the WWE, and even then they relied on joshi talent from other promotions.
However, joshi promotions usually have agreements with male puroresu promotions and as such they recognise each of their titles and may even share cards. That happens pretty much once in a blue moon, but there we go.
So there you have it! A little piece of trivia to take home with you that explains why we will never accept male wrestlers.
Am I allowed to roleplay as a monster heel joshi or is it strictly beautiful women that are allowed?
Seishin's stated theme is the attractiveness of it's roster, but as far as handling monster heels or similar, then please have at it. World Wonder Ring Stardom also places emphasis on the attractiveness of it's roster and it had Yoshiko, who is probably as close to a monster heel joshi as you could get without being Bull Nakano or Aja Kong (actually, if you gave Aja Kong a long blonde wig...), so don't be afraid to roleplay as a muscle woman who got beat to death by the ugly stick if that is what you want. Be who you are comfortable being.
Are members of staff allowed to handle their own characters?
Yes they are, but you can rest assured that if a character is being handled by a member of staff then they have absolutely no say in how their matches are judged, and they will abide by the judgment of whose who determine the winners and losers of their matches.
How are matches judged?
Either members of staff or members of the roster who have been asked to help judge will determine the outcome of a match. If a match involves a character handled by a member of staff then they are automatically barred from the judging process. To answer the question, we judge matches on the following criteria.
- Quality: We value the quality of a member's roleplays very highly, so much that one really good RP could very much possibly beat two average ones. Quality is always prized above quantity, though we shall never say no to the latter, either.
- Relevance to Match: It's all well and good having a very well written roleplay where your character grabs a coffee, but it's not very relevant to said character's upcoming match.
- The X Factor: No, not the crappy TV show. We will take a look at a person's roleplays and we will take it into closer consideration if it has that little je ne sais qois that makes a roleplay truly special.
What is your position on no-shows?
We completely understand and accept that real life is far more important than a game, and that things have a habit of happening to you at the worst possible time, especially after you have opted into a show. However, that being said we would prefer it if we would be informed through a PM or on the OOC board that you were going to no-show, but we would much prefer it even more if you roleplayed anyway. We don't ask much, just a line if that's all you can manage and we would like to think that your opponents would prefer that over a no-show.
I want to post a segment for a show but there is no backstage interviewer. Why is that?
Because in Japanese wrestling they very, very rarely use backstage interviewers. Their back of house segments are usually either in the form of a press conference with the wrestler made before the show airs or as the wrestler talking to a camera privately in some backstage area. If you haven't seen Japanese wrestling before you may find that it's rather different than Western wrestling.
We hope that this has answered all of your questions about Seishin. If you want to ask something that hasn't already been answered here, then please don't hesitate to ask.
