Despite the way she conveys herself in the ring and on television, Shihai came up from nothing. Her father was a poor fisherman and her mother was a seamstress. She determined that she would make something of herself and rise above these meager beginnings, either honestly or cutting every corner she could. Whatever the means, she graduated the top of her class and was the star on various sports teams. She entered pageants and won several, and attending these let her network with various business people to get herself a foothold in the business world. A clothing line here, endorsements all over.
In short, she knows what it is like to sleep on floors and go hungry, and also fly across continents on private jets. Her arrogance and bitterness now probably stems from a deep-rooted fear of having to go back to those meager time. She wants to be the best, beleives in her heart that she is, whether or not that is true. She will fight tooth and nail to get there and stay there, woe be to any who step in her way.
