Rather than the sounds of a sewing machine, the feed returns to Junko now modeling her freshly made attire, which sparkles in the light. It had to sparkle in the light, it threw the entire outfit together. Wearing a look of determination, Junko balls her fingers into a fist and whispers encouraging words of wisdom to herself before speaking.
“In this match, which might well be the most important so far of my career, I realize that in many ways I’m outclassed. After all, it is true that I was mostly a tag team wrestler and largely still am. Both Jacqui and Merlot have more experience; Jacqui is like a grandmother of this industry and Merlot started when I was still thinking about how to best dance to love songs while having never experienced love. But their collective years of experience matters more to them than it does to the match at hand. Both women think highly of themselves as people who can call upon experience and age to keep up with people like me, young people.”
“I do not wish to say that they are past their prime, but Merlot is not fighting with a full body and Jacqui…well she will tell you about how things were ‘in her day’. Both are seeking redemption or re-validation or something intangible to make their own fears and doubts go away. And that is precisely why they cannot be the victors of this match; they are not trying to represent the very best Seishin and Japan has to offer but rather they are trying to stroke their own egos.”
“People say lots of things about me, I have been over some recently, but what people should know and SHOULD be saying is that for as cute as I am it does not matter how long someone has been doing this because I am capable of coming up with ways to deal with problems. Who do you think it was that came up with the strategy that took down the arrogant Saito? Who do you think is preparing ways to handle that same pressure? I cannot rely on a team up as I could against Saito…but both of my competitors have one thing in common that is ripe for potential.”
“They are both in this for selfish reasons. It is selfish people that are unable to focus on anything other than their own self-interest. They will try anything and everything to prove that they are not as washed up and done as they believe they are. And they will tear each other apart if they have to. But me? The soon-to-be Kawaii Champion? I am better than that. I know better than to let my emotions and doubts get in the way of what matters most. Jacqui and Merlot are selfish and full of self doubt. I am selfless and have proven time and again that I will be a PRD Great Champion.”
“Out with the old dogs. In with the kawaii.”
