What is Honour?
Words: 500
The scene opened up to a small room, where the woman they call Shura, Azumi Uematsu, knelt on a mat with a small table in front of her. Azumi was dressed in a pale pink kimono, covered in a print of beautiful cherry blossoms. She looked the picture of tradition as she picked the small teacup from the table in front of her and took a small draw of the warm liquid within.
She placed the cup back on the table, and then turned her attention to the camera that was recording her.
"What is honour?" she asked. Her voice was calm, collected, controlled but one could hear the frustration hidden within. “That is a question the answer to which has eluded many a man and woman for centuries. The dictionary gives us many meanings. Honour is a privilege, an award, a token of praise. Some define honour as…reputation, or as a thing to justify crimes committed to protect that reputation. Many see honour as a mere…idea that is, at its very core, meaningless.”
Azumi reached down and took another sip of her tea.
“So, what is honour for Uematsu Azumi? Honour is…everything. It is a code of conduct, a way of respect, teachings of traditions that have been lost to this great sport of ours for some time, now. Honour is a thing I fight to restore every single time I step into that ring…and honour is what I shall bring back to puroresu.”
“To do that, however, I must eliminate four other women in a battle royal. No great chore, I assure you, for I know my competition and only one is of any concern to me.”
Azumi gave the camera a small smirk.
“So let me talk about Natalie first. She has conducted herself…admirably, which is a surprise to me, given how the current generation of wrestlers conduct themselves. I have faced her in the ring before and while she is still wet behind the ears…I would enjoy fighting her again.”
“Valkyrie, the ‘Great Dane Bitch,’ or whatever that barbarian calls herself. I said before she is all noise and I stand by that. She is a large woman, true, but as that crude saying goes: ‘size isn’t everything.’ She is crude, loud and abrasive but ultimately no threat to me. Her bark, as it were, is clearly worse than her bite.”
“I have seen Shizuka Kai preparing herself for this match, and for that I commend her, but she is still no serious threat to me…more a threat than the barbarian, perhaps, but still.”
“Finally, Wakahisa Kotone, who is close to forty years old and yet still has no more experience than a simple Young Girl. If she had debuted closer to the age that I did maybe I would see her as a worthy opponent. But she didn’t, and I don’t.”
A pause, and then…
“What is honour to these women? I don’t know…but I intend to find out. The hard way.”
Fade to black.
