For the Honour of Seishin
Words: 500
The scene opened with Azumi Uematsu, the woman known to the wrestling community as Shura, sitting outside of the dojo’s wrestling ring after a vigorous sparring session. She took a deep breath, and used the towel in her hands to wipe away the beads of sweat on her forehead. She then tossed the towel aside and grabbed the bottle of water resting beside her, unscrewing the cap and taking a deep draw of the clear liquid before she looked hard into the camera and spoke.
“’One has honour if he holds himself to an ideal of conduct though it is inconvenient, unprofitable, or dangerous to do so.’” began Azumi before she drew in a deep breath. “A gaijin named Walter Lippman said that. In these words, he teaches that you must hold to your beliefs, even if they make you unpopular or worse…a threat. Words to live by.”
“Not in this day and age, however… In this day and age, you could hold yourself to your ideals, your beliefs, your code of conduct and suffer the ridicule and disdain of your supposed peers, and worse, the fans you go out to entertain.”
“In this day and age, the code of conduct in puroresu is dictated by the children who want everything and feel they deserved it yesterday, and damn everybody else. Damn those who came before them.”
Azumi paused, and then…
“No more. No more will the young women of Seishin do as they please like the children they are. No more will they dishonour the sport I have given my life to. No more will I suffer the slings and arrows of disrespect and disdain for holding to the old ways, better ways.”
“And it begins at Destiny: Seishin Rising. At the Tokyo Dome, five women shall compete for the honour of Seishin, and I don’t mean the title belt. Myself, a childish fool, a fierce gaijin barbarian, a middle-aged bodybuilder who shouldn’t have bothered entering the wrestling world at her age, and another gaijin who…admittedly has impressed me…not by much, however.”
“Of my opponents, there is only one of them whom I would consider the greatest threat to me…and perhaps an acceptable champion of honour. Natalie McKinley has made an impact here at Seishin...moreso than the rest of the children I would say…but she still has a long road ahead of her, especially when it comes to facing me.”
“The rest…are not as impressive. Kai Shizuka is an optimistic fool, but a fool nonetheless. She has won only one of her matches here at Seishin. Her optimism will not save her against me. Valkyrie, the barbarian who is more noise than substance may not even be a threat to me. And Wakahisa Kotone…though her physique is impressive, raw strength will not save her.
“Five women, all about to step into the ring to fight for a championship title belt…but only one of us will walk out of the Tokyo Dome with the honour of Seishin.”
Fade to black.
