The feed opens on Junko seated at a sewing machine, sweat on her brow as her fingers guide fabric through it in the process of finalizing her attire for the title match. Her eyes are focused on her task yet that doesn’t stop her from speaking as she feeds red fabric to the needle.
“It iss strange, hearing opponents not treat me like a child playing games for once. For the longest time that seemed to be all anyone ever said when they spoke of myself or my partner. That we were out of our ‘league’ and that we would never amount to anything; even here in our birthplace there were people treating us like children – including a child herself. My entire life has been a story of people telling me that I cannot do this or that. People laughed when I said I would become an idol. People laughed when I transitioned to wrestling. People still laugh and say that I am nothing, that I am worthless. I deal with words and thoughts that would have broken weaker people.”
“I give it my all. I always have. I have given sweat, I have given tears, I have given blood from people who would not stop until they broke my nose because they understood that no matter what they did there was one thing they could never break: my spirit.”
The sounds of a sewing machine take the center stage as Junko pauses her words.
“Both of my opponents believe that they have something to prove by winning this match. They might believe they need this, but I disagree. Who has told either of them that they do not belong anywhere? Who has told them that they will never amount to anything? Who has told them that, despite success after success after success that they will never be good enough? People will say that Team PRD never won a title and that I am not good without Meiko. People will never mention that Fire and Ice had to constantly use cheating and underhanded methods to prevent PRD from winning. People will never mention that I, not Meiko, but Me had a singles win streak that was almost the company record. People will never mention how much I suffer because I dare to be happy, to be cute, and to be myself.”
“Because no one is able to look beyond the surface.”
“Both Merlot and Jacqui are veterans, of different sorts, one bitter and one…other b-word. Two people who seem to have fallen out of love with this. And there’s me…the little girl that never says no, that everyone likes to hate and make fun of because of who I am. And you two, Merlot, Jacqui, are guilty of that all the same. So your compliments to me? Completely hollow.”
“But I have much more to prove. People will not see me as a child, but as a woman. As an idol. As a wrestler.”
“About DAMN time.”
