Merlot sat on a bench. She was at Ueno, one of Tokyo's highly esteemed zooes. She slid on her Ray Bans as a couple of families passed her.
RAWR!
She watched the families, particularly the children, shrieked at the sounds coming from nearby Lion’s Den. A young boy urgently grabbed his mother’s hand and pleaded that they leave the area. Merlot smiled softly at the scene.
“In 1915, Walter Bradford Cannon was credited with coming up with the ever so popular theory that we’ve termed Fight or Flight. It’s a physiological and psychological response to events that our bodies deemed threats to our survival. It is often said that strong-willed and determined people will Fight, while the weak will choose Flight.”
Merlot nodded her head. “They say you can tell a lot about a person, simply based upon their reaction. Let us take Jacqui Monroe for example.” Merlot smirked. “According to Cannon, Jacqui would be seen as weak and insecure. Sure, Jacqui is loud, boisterous, and overbearing―however, that’s all a facade, right? If Jacqui-chan were truly strong, she wouldn’t have to restore to such tactics to puff herself up.”
Merlot paused for a second. “Jacqui, you’ll say Merlot’s previous statement is merely a fabricated conjecture; therefore, allow me to offer you up some proof.” She held up one finger. “At one time, you were the head bitch in charge of Girl Power Wrestling...until a revolution occurred, and you were ultimately dethroned. Instead of rightfully reclaiming what was yours, you quietly faded into the background for a number of months―you ran.
“And, let us not forget your recent venture at Extreme Wrestling Corporation’s King of the Cage. Yes, Merlot watched that entire event, along with the videos attached. Jacqui, you wrote a large check for that event, one you couldn’t cash. You vowed that you would bust ass, win the whole thing, and become the first Queen of the Cage. However, when the going got tough, you curled up into the fetal position and got your butt kicked!
“Weak!”
Merlot pushed herself off the bench. “You have promised similar results here in Seishin. And to your credit, you have earned your spot in this championship match. However, based upon your track-record, you won’t back up your words. You’ll just flee, and once again prove yourself to be a liar and a failure.”
RAWR!
The lion was right up against the cage bars. With no hesitation, Merlot approached bars. She glared at the big cat.
“Merlot isn’t like you Jacqui. I was crippled by this sport, disrespected by this industry, and I still got back into the ring. When shots are fired, Merlot fires back―she fights!” Slightly intimidated by her exclamation, the lion backed off; Merlot smiled. “Seishin needs a champion that will stand and scrap when things become difficult. That person isn't you Jacqui. There is only person in this match who is battled tested and hardened to withstand that burden―
“Her name is Merlot Ayano!”
