We are Seishin #4
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Dome City, Tokyo
The Seishin cameras open live in the famous Korakuen Hall as the fourth edition of We are Seishin was set to begin. The sold out crowd were sitting in their seats waiting patiently as one of the cameras pans back and forth over the excited faces at ringside. Another camera captured some of the various banners and signs hanging from the hall’s balconies, written in either Japanese or in English: ‘Kaya was screwed!’ ‘Ayano Clan member!’ ‘#Saito for Champion!’
The camera then cut away to the Seishin broadcast team, seated at ringside, and ready as always to get the night started.
Keiji Mikami: “Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the fourth edition of We are Seishin! Speaking to you live inside Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo Dome City, Tokyo. I’m Mikami Keiji, joined by my broadcast colleague, veteran joshi turned colour commentator Takahashi Tomoko.”
Tomoko Takahashi: “Mikami-san, tonight is a night of unusual matches. First, we have a series of three-way dances, each and every one of them to determine who goes to the finals at our first ever supershow.”
Keiji Mikami: “Indeed, Takahashi-san! Originally, we were going to hold our quarter-finals matches on this very night, but due to the double count-out decided in the Joanna versus Ayano Pepsi match two weeks ago, our general manager Inoue Mariko was forced to take action and restructure the tournament into these semi-final three-ways!”
Tomoko Takahashi: “Yeah, took action like she took action on Junko and Barbie-doll that night. Hey, did you hear that what’s-her-name is threatening to sue Seishin?!”
Keiji Mikami: “Somehow I doubt that is actually going to happen, Takahashi-san.
Tomoko Takahashi: “Yeah, you’re probably right. Moron probably too busy licking posters or something. Now, why don’t you tell these fans what else they have to look forward to, tonight!”
Keiji Mikami: “Yes, we also have our main event, a ten-woman elimination style tag team match! Somehow I think that match is going to be a true beast of joshi puroresu, Takahashi-san.“
Tomoko Takahashi: “Why? It’s mostly models in that match. I could count on one hand the number of those competitors who I consider acceptable.”
Keiji Mikami: “Let’s just get to the action, shall we?”
Match One
Saint Saito vs. Junko vs. Cherry Oliver
Championship of Seishin Tournament Semi-Finals Three-Way Dance
Written by: Candi
Masami Ishikawa: Ladies and gentlemen, the following match is a three-way dance to determine who will advance in the Championship of Seishin Tournament!
The lights inside the venue flicker until cutting off completely, and darkness fills ringside. “Lust SIN” by Daisuke Ishiwatari then began to blast through the speakers and the fans let loose a roaring cheer for the Japanese-American wrestler that is Saint Saito.
Moments pass, until a single spotlight flashes over the stage, bathing Saito in light as she stood on the stage, clad in a beautiful red robe, with patterns golden cherry blossoms stitched along the edges, and near-invisible red dragons stitched into the sleeves.
Saito raises her arms high above to her sides, as if she was being bathed by the light that shone over her. Standing like that for just a few seconds before the lighting returned to normal, Saito then makes her way down to the ring.
As soon as she made her way to the ring arpon, Saito turns and then makes her way up the corner stairs. Upon reaching the top Saito climbed even higher, ascending the ropes and resting a knee at the top as she gazed out into the crowd, taking in all the fans both cheering her on and booing her. She smirks and raises her arms above her like she did previously before climbing down and slipping into the ring.
Still staring out into the crowd as she moves around the ring in an almost-circle, Saito removes her beautiful red robe and tosses it over to a member of the ring crew, before she makes her way to one of the corners and resting lazily against the turnbuckle as she waits for the match to begin.
Keiji Mikami: Saint Saito, the first to come down to the ring. This proud young joshi has the look of pure confidence about her, Takahashi-san.
Tomoko Takahashi: Maybe so, but I believe that pride of hers is going to bite her in the ass. As you know, she agreed to have herself blindfolded with one arm tied behind her back, she is that confident that she will win against the cheerleader and the dancing fool. Confidence in your abilities is one thing, but to disadvantage yourself like that, that is utter idiocy!
The thumping opening beat sounds and with it comes a chorus of cheers. Junko stands on the ramp, mic around her head, and smiles towards the crowd. She juts her arm forward, giving the V for Victory signal before making her way towards the ring, her steps bouncing in beat to the music to make it appear as if she's dancing all the way down. She sings along to the lyrics, though only the chorus as she is much more focused on dancing her way to the ring. When she sings the numbers in the song, she makes the numbers with her fingers, smiling all the while. In the ring she gives another V towards the crowd, wearing a face of determination, if not confidence.
Tomoko Takahashi: Huh, speak of the devil…
Keiji Mikami: Did you see the look Junko gave Saito when she stepped in the ring? Saito has been insulting her and her partner Meiko on Twitter ever since they signed up with Seishin, and both girls have grown to hate the young Saito.
Tomoko Takahashi: Pffft. Maybe Team PRD should grow some thicker skin. Sticks and stones and all that.
The reggaeton beat of Selena Gomez's 'Like A Champion' takes over the arena's sound system. As a basic light show starts up and the vocalist sings the first few words of the lyrics, Cheerleader Cherry steps out. She strikes a pose near the entrance for a moment, then makes her way to the ring, slapping a few hands and ruffling the odd kid's hair along the way.
Tomoko Takahashi: …Please tell me she didn’t just come to the ring in a cheerleader’s outfit.
Keiji Mikami: Okay, I won’t, but Cherry Oliver is also a young woman whom has been a target of Saito’s verbal attacks, recently.
Tomoko Takahashi: Buddha preserve me... And so I say again: Thicker skin. Grow it!
‘Like a Champion’ faded into silence, as did everyone else inside Korakuen Hall as Masami Ishikawa took to her position in the center of the ring.
Masami Ishikawa: Ladies and gentlemen, introducing first in the red corner, from San Francisco, California but residing in Tokyo, Tokyo Prefecture and weighing in at 120lbs… The New Ace of Joshi Puroresu… Saint Saito!
Black and red streamers flew into the ring from ringside as Saito extended her arms to her sides, staring at her opponents as the ring crew worked to clear the ring of the coloured paper.
Masami Ishikawa: Second, from Harajuku and weighing in at 117lbs… Representing Team PRD… Junko!
Junko smiles and gives a pageant wave to the crowd as pink and silver streamers were tossed into the ring, and as the ring crew cleaned up Junko returned to glaring at Saito.
Masami Ishikawa: And finally, from Allen, Michigan and weighing in at 112lbs… Cherry Oliver!
Cherry walks to the middle of the ring and does a split as a two different shades of pink streamers flood the ring and the crowd cheers. The ring crew quickly removes the coloured paper and the referee calls for all three women to meet him in the center of the ring, asking if they were all ready to begin the match. Once they all agreed, the referee produces a blindfold and a pair of handcuffs and turned toward Saint Saito. First, he put the blindfold on her, and then slipping one cuff on her left wrist he slipped her arm behind her back and attacked the other cuff to the belt on her tights.
Once Saito has had her left arm tied behind her and the blindfold held on nice and securely, the bell sounds allowing Junko and Cherry to look toward one another. Junko makes a signal between them to first switch places and Cherry nods crossing the ring to take her friends position while she does the same.
Keiji Mikami: It looks as if Junko is taking the lead on this and coming out with some strategy.
Tomoko Takahashi: Unless Saito already thought of that, then they're just playing right into her hands! Or hand now.
Junko and Cherry once more exchange glances with the former of the two giving a silent countdown before Cherry reacts at one quickly rushing toward Saito yelling out as she does. Saito quickly sidesteps Cherry and pushes her into the corner pad before crashing her shoulder against the cheerleaders spine.
Tomoko Takahashi: Well that worked.
Keiji Mikami: Cherry was a tad bit excited there, wasn't she?
Tomoko Takahashi: I'll say. This is just Michael Bay Ninja Turtle tactics. She knows she has the advantage, she knows Saito is pre occupied with something, she knows silence will be their best attribute...but nope! Just rush right in there announcing yourself. I'm sure Saito would be laughing out even more if she could see that stupid little cheerleader outfit Cherry has on.
Saito just smirks figuring it to be Cherry she rammed into the corner and turns back to where she was only to be caught off guard by a sudden suplex from the side by Junko! Cherry turns jumping up and down in celebration.
Tomoko Takahashi: What the hell?
Keiji Mikami: They had it planned all along! They used Saito's own belief of Cherry's rash thinking to take control of this! In the excitement, Junko sneaked up alongside Saito and waited for her to begin calming down.
Saito is quickly on her way back up to her feet but she's met with a sudden front dropkick to the face. She turns straight into a DDT from Junko and then feels the full weight of the cheerleader as Cherry comes crashing down overtop of her with a standard falling elbow. Cherry is back up to her feet and cheering!
Tomoko Takahashi: And this is going about as well as I expected! Oh, how foolish are the young…
Keiji Mikami: You are right, Takahashi-san! Saito may be confident, but she's not empowered. She's in there with two trained in ring participants who happen to be friends. Did she think that giving herself such a huge handicap was a good idea?
Tomoko Takahashi: I suppose she thought so at the time.
Masami Ishikawa: Five minutes have elapsed!
Junko brings Saito back up to her feet and in a desperate, yet disoriented, action she swings a fist out narrowly missing the idol's midsection. Junko whips Saito hard into the corner for her efforts and rushes over. Sensing something on its way, Saito moves from the corner allowing Junko to crash into it and Cherry to come out with a dropkick at Saito's face knocking her clear through the ropes and to the outside!
Keiji Mikami: They outsmarted her again! How long have these two been at it in the match strategy field?
Tomoko Takahashi: I just can't believe that such delicate techniques could actually be crammed into that silly little gaijin's head in such a small amount of time.
When the celebration inside the ring dies off, both Cherry and Junko realize they're both alone in the ring.
Tomoko Takahashi: Good, maybe they'll put each other in the hospital. Here’s hoping!
However, instead of fighting the two go right out of the ring for Saito!
Tomoko Takahashi: What?!
Junko and Cherry both bring Saito up to her feet and begin pushing and twirling her around before sending her inside the ring only to quickly join her. Once again disoriented, Saito spins like a top before Junko snapmares her down and Cherry dropkicks her in the face causing Saito's spine to press back against the Team PRD members knee!
Keiji Mikami: Ouch. I'm sure Saito's about ready to take off that blindfold now.
Once more some celebrating around Saito's broken body as the Joshi crawls over toward the ropes only to be pulled up by Junko.
Tomoko Takahashi: Not again...
Junko whips her to the other side. Saito hits the ropes and comes back tripping over Junko as she lies down. Saito crashes against the canvas and Cherry comes in with an elbow drop...but misses! Saito is to her feet stomping once on Junko's spine and then kicks at Cherry's ribs. She continues kicking until the cheerleader is forced to crawl toward the corner while even still then being kicked repeatedly. Saito rushes to where Junko is and reaches down grabbing hold of her top bringing her up to her feet ramming her face first against Cherry. Junko turns pressing herself against her friend as Saito presses even more with a foot to her gut while holding the rope for leverage.
Keiji Mikami: Saito's certainly turned this match around.
Tomoko Takahashi: I knew Cherry wasn't smart enough to fully memorize two different tactics. They were using the same thing over and over again, it was only a matter of time until Saito caught on enough to counter it.
Saito eventually lets up allowing Junko to collapse down to the canvas only to be stepped on by her fellow Joshi who begins chopping hard across Cherry's chest!
Keiji Mikami: A different sort of style from Saito tonight.
Tomoko Takahashi: Of course! Even she realizes she can't just keep to her old tricks when it comes to being blindfolded and her arm tied behind her!
Junko starts to roll around on the canvas to get Saito off who steps back kicking at the idol's ribs nice and hard causing Cherry to trip over her friend and go face first against the canvas.
Masami Ishikawa: Ten minutes have elapsed!
Keiji Mikami: Saito needs to keep track of them before they can have a chance to separate here.
Saito reaches down grabbing Cherry by the hair shoving her back into the corner and then reaches as well for Junko only to find her no longer there as the PRDer has slid from the ring to regain her bearings. Saito feels around with her foot for a bit to see if Junko is around but gives up realizing she's lost her. Saito just turns her attention toward Cherry knowing where she is and begins kicking her a few times in the gut before pressing her against the ropes.
Keiji Mikami: Will this really be a good idea?
Saito certainly thinks so as she whips Cherry across the ring. However, Cherry grabs hold of the ropes before returning causing a standoff between herself and Saito across the ring.
Tomoko Takahashi: What's going on now?
Keiji Mikami: It looks to be a duel of sorts.
Cherry takes a deep breath and charges ahead straight into a sudden knee to the face from Saito knocking her clean out. She goes for the cover but in a surprise finds herself being rolled up!
Tomoko Takahashi: Saito Smash from Saint Saito!
Keiji Mikami: But Junko comes out of nowhere with the roll-up!
One!
Two!
Three!
Tomoko Takahashi: Junko! She just stole this from Saito!
Keiji Mikami: She's the one who handicapped herself.
Tomoko Takahashi: I know that! But against all odds Saito had that match won and then Junko goes ahead and rolls her up!
Masami Ishikawa: Your winner by pinfall...JUNKO!!!
Saito rips her blindfold off in time to see Junko making her way back with one arm around Cherry and the other up in the air in celebration to her victory. Saito curses at the two women in English as the referee releases her arm from the cuffs. Junko looked very much pleased with herself. Even Cherry did, too, despite her losing the match, having made sure that Saint Saito was out of the running for the title.
Their victory was short lived, however, as a young woman emerged from behind the backstage curtain behind them and cracked them both across the back of their heads with a kendo stick. The music ceased a split second after both Junko and Cherry hit the floor. The woman picked them both up and dragged them back in the ring, Cherry first, and then Junko after another crack to the head with her kendo stick.
Keiji Mikami: Wait, what the hell is this?! Junko and Cherry Oliver are being assaulted by an unknown woman with a kendo stick!
Tomoko Takahashi: Wait… I know that woman, that’s Saito Haruka! As I understand correctly that is…Saint Saito’s cousin?
Keiji Mikami: It looks like this Saito Haruka is taking some revenge on behalf of her cousin’s loss, then.
Both Saitos then proceeded to do harm to the other two women. Saint Saito set Junko up on her feet and then roundhouse kicked her in the head, and Haruka Saito was on her knees, beating Cherry with her kendo stick while she was lying on the mat until the stick broke in half. She then discarded the stick, and grabbed Cherry by the hair and proceeded to pummel the young American woman in the head.
Keiji Mikami: This is disgusting! Won’t anybody help those two?! Where is Meiko?! Where is Candi?!
Tomoko Takahashi: Where indeed.
Suddenly, two members of the ring crew, Young Girls by the looks of them, surged from ringside and slid through the ropes, pulling the Saito cousins from their victims and forcing them into the nearest corners. They yelled at them, calling them both out on their despicable actions, bravely standing up to these experienced joshi.
Keiji Mikami: Thank god somebody saw this behaviour as wrong! Those Young Girls are doing what an entire roster should have done.
Both Cherry and Junko helped one another up as the Young Girls were telling the Saitos off, both women clearly in pain, but as they both helped each other to their feet, the two Young Girls suddenly turned around and superkicked Junko and Cherry in their respective jaws, knocking them both to the mat once again. The crowds fill the hall with deafening boos as the Saitos come from their corners and pull each of the Young Girls in for hugs before moving to hug one another.
Tomoko Takahashi: …You were saying, Mikami-san?
Keiji Mikami: Good lord, Takahashi-san, what did those two do to warrant this kind of treatment?
Tomoko Takahashi: You’re talking like you’ve never seen a beating before. But those Young Girls, though…who are those two meant to be to the Saitos?
Keiji Mikami: After that disgrace, you know what my guess is? More Saitos.
Another woman emerged from the curtain and made her way to the ring. This was an older woman, almost regal looking but for the arrogant smirk she wore on her face. She was carrying something in her hands; a microphone, and what looked like a roll of black fabric.
Tomoko Takahashi: Saito…Sumie?
Keiji Mikami: You know her?
Tomoko Takahashi: Of course I know her! She and her sister were around back when I used to wrestle! They were infamous back in the day, almost as infamous as I was!
Sumie Saito climbed the steps and stepped through the ropes, first moving over to where Saint Saito stood with hands on her hips. Sumie cupped her nieces face and said some words to her, to which the younger Saito nodded her agreement. Afterward, Sumie handed the black fabric to Haruka before holding her microphone to her lips.
Sumie Saito: I’ll bet when you first set foot inside this hall that none of you had ever expected this.
The crowd booed.
Keiji Mikami: That’s something of an understatement.
Sumie Saito: But in spite of your expectations for tonight, you are all present to bear witness to the past, the present and the future of joshi puroresu, joined together in unity. You see before you the past…you see Saito Sumie, who alongside my twin sister…
She turned to smile at Saint Saito.
Sumie Saito: …ravaged the joshi scene over twenty years ago, as the colourful Takahashi-san might attest to, perhaps. In the present, you see my eldest daughter, Haruka – Black Haruka. She is a multi-time champion and a joshi’s worst nightmare in the ring. The apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree, am I right, daughter?
She then smiled at Haruka, who smirked back at her.
Sumie Saito: You also see in the present, my niece, Sara, or as you know her as Saint Saito! A joshi so full of raw talent she has done by the age of seventeen what most adult wrestlers have yet to do! Though she has been eliminated from this tournament I assure you all that this setback is but a minor one at best. And now…in the future, you have these two bright souls, my youngest daughters…
She placed an arm over one of the Young Girl’s shoulders.
Sumie Saito: Asami and Sakura Saito, heirs to a proud wrestling legacy. Young Girls, still, yet to make their journey into the greater world of puroresu, but in them there is so much promise to make our family proud.
Sumie pressed her lips against her daughter’s cheek and then released her, taking a couple of steps forward, closer to the bodies of the fallen Junko and Cherry.
Sumie Saito: Now, I ask you all to bear witness to this union. Bear witness to the past, the present, the future of joshi puroresu. Bear witness…!
Haruka unfurled the roll of black fabric to reveal a flag. It was a red sun before a black background, with the words SAITO CLAN written underneath, both in Japanese and again in English. Haruka displayed the flag to the fans who were still filling the hall with their disapproval. Haruka then covered Cherry and Junko’s bodies with the flag, as if it were come kind of death shroud, and Sumie looked down at the two women as they were being covered.
Sumie Saito: Bear witness…to the Saito Clan. And we shall ravage the joshi scene once again…starting with Seishin.
“Lust SIN” filled the hall, and the newly birthed ‘Saito Clan’ exited the ring, and made their way to the backstage area.
Keiji Mikami: What have we just seen, Tomoko?
