The camera focused up on a television screen, the video footage was of a Taekwondo seminar with the time stamp labelling it as December 2014. Standing in the middle of the room was an elderly Korean gentleman, dressed in the white dobok with the South Korean flag on his sleeve. After a moment the video began to play. Hana herself was seen in the video, standing in the back with a number of other black belts
“Taekwondo is more than a military martial art, it can be a lifestyle of it's own. Every day we walk into difficulties such as disagreeing with someone, yet we use our courtesy to move on from it if we avoid being pushed into anger with our self control. We know we can act with integrity and as we walk through life, we persevere.”
“Miss Park, my granddaughter is a good example of this. She is very much a full time fighter as she wrestles as well with GPW, a local company that I've seen many of you wearing t shirts for. Whenever Hana fights, she always offers a handshake before and after her matches, she never cheats. She fights as long as she physically can without making a serious injury worse, she's never gone excessive with any of her attacks and no matter whether she wins or loses, she always makes her own way from the ring to the backstage area without any help. Can anyone tell me why she does that?”
A small girl, no older than six years old, raised her hand as the Master nodded to her.
“She applies her teachings to what she does sir!”
“Correct. Hana has been practising Taekwondo for many years, since the age of five by Western standards, Aged eight she had earned her black belt and was working hard to make sure she was the best. Is she fantastic at everything? No she isn't, but if you have the desire to do something and it's something you enjoy doing, then it becomes so much easier to obtain success, but it will still take some practise, because we train hard and...”
With them all shouting out loud with military precision
“Fight easy sir!”
With a nod, the Master gestured to the black belts. The tallest dropped down low, hands locked together as Hana stepped back. Behind them, three more blackbelts positioned themselves, two gripping the Dobok jacket shoulders as the lighest rested on each shoulder, holding a wooden pine board.
“Sijak!”
And on command, Hana charged forward, jumping up with one foot into the locked hands as the tall blackbelt propelled her into the air, the ball of Hana's foot connected with the board and split it in two.”
Pause.
The camera span suddenly to reveal Hana herself, a small smile on her face.
“If you think you knew perseverance and dedication, then I'd suggest you both study me some more. The opportunity will not escape this time!”
