Hi there.
I've been flirting around with the idea of changing the way matches are judged after the results for WAS #4 are posted. As they are now, matches are judged based on three factors: quality of writing, relevance to matches and what I call the 'X Factor,' basically the little things that makes a roleplay just that little bit special.
So far it's worked quite well for me and for those who have judged matches for me but I was thinking about maybe fine-tuning the process a little and on that I had the idea of changing the criteria on how matches are judged and maybe adding a points system, too.
Here's what I have so far:
Creativity.
- Originality: How original was the roleplay? Did it follow the same old formula or did it bring something new?
- Entertainment: How much the judge enjoyed the roleplay. Did it grab him/her/it by the feels?
- Overall Creativity: How creative did the judge find the roleplay, in general terms?
(I guess this would replace the 'X Factor' aspect of the original criteria)
Realism.
- Keeping to Character: Did you break character at all or did you keep to their personality? Did your perky super-face suddenly feel the need to shake a baby, for example?
- Overall Realism: How realistic was the roleplay?
Quality.
- Spelling: Did you use that spell check and proof read your roleplay before posting?
- Vocabulary: Purple prose or sesquipedalian loquaciousness or purple prose is not necessary but did you get creative with your words? (Now I bet some of you are going to look up "Sesquipedialian Loquaciousness," aren't you? )
- Punctuation: Correct. use! of, punctuation marks: capital letters, @ cetera... <== Correct punctuation this is not.
- Flow: How easy was it to read the roleplay in question?
(This is basically the same as Quality as it is but with some sub-criteria to help with scorekeeping)
Relevance.
- Focus on Match: If there's a stipulation, are you mentioning it?
- Focus on Opponent: Are you basing your roleplay around who you are up against?
- Focus on Consequences of Match: What does winning or losing mean for the characters?
(Same as above, same as Match Relevance as it is now but with sub-criteria)
Timing.
- Time of posting: Did you post your roleplay on the day the card was posted or only just before the deadline was hit?
(This last one might need fine tuning on it's own but the idea was to eliminate sandbagging, encourage early posting and discourage last-minute posts)
That's what I've got so far. It was just something I've been flirting with so it's maybe not as fine-tuned as I like at the moment but what do you guys think?
