The camera faded in; the image of a green Blackjack table filled the screen. Merlot appeared as the camera tilted upward; she was adorned in a sexy black dress. Opposite Merlot’s position rested two empty chairs. Adjacent to each were two white name-cards: “Valkyrie” and “eNigma” were written on them.
“The downfall of men and women is often preceded by greed,” Merlot said as she revealed a deck of cards. She began to shuffle them. “The prospect of money and power tends to, corrupt, even the most noble of creatures.”
Merlot dealt out one card to each of the name-cards, and on to herself.
“Valkyrie, you know all too well about greed, don’t you? At one point in time, you ruled a little place called Girl Power Wrestling. You were highly hyped; and, you had the skill to back it up to boot. Your talent eventually earned you the GPW West Coast title. Some say that you were one of the best champions of you time.”
Once again, Merlot dealt out a round of cards.
“But, you weren’t content. Your lust for power sparked the creation of G.O.D., one of the most unsuccessful tag teams ever known to man―I believe you and your partner went almost six months without a win. It was that very gluttony that drove you in the waiting arms of GPW’s Head Office, where you became nothing more than a pathetic lapdog.”
She dealt out around round of cards.
“Here you are again in Seishin. Instead of methodically rebuilding your damaged name and reputation, you’ve decided to chase after the Seishin title. Valkyrie, you may be a good wrestler, but you are blinded by your foolhardiness.”
Merlot flipped over Valkyrie’s cards: 10, 7, 6. Merlot smirked.
“Moving on. eNigma, let Merlot ask something, what brought you to this company? Is it because you want to get better? Is it because you wanted to properly learn to work the Japanese style? Or did you and your manager merely see an opportunity to snatch a free belt?
“eNigma, you don’t give a fuck about Seishin or it’s legacy, and neither does Raggs. So why on earth should you be crowned the Champion of Seishin?”
Merlot flipped over eNigma’s cards: 9, 7, 8.
“So, how is Merlot different than you two?” She smiled a bit. “You see, Merlot has been with this company since day one. I was not lured in by a tournament, or the expectation of holding gold. Merlot’s only goal was to rekindle her passion for the Business; it just so happened that she impressed enough people in her debut match against Shura.
“I deserve to advance to the finals, not you two. I have the right motives, I have to right drive―and we all know I have the skill.”
She flipped over her cards: 7, 7, 7.
A wicked smirk graced Merlot’s face. “The house wins, just like it will on November Second.”
